The effect of education based on extended parallel process model (EPPM) on the self-medication of elderly in Zarandieh

摘要: Background: Self-medication can be defined as obtaining and consuming drugs without the prescription of a physician either it might have serious consequences. The aim this study was to determine effect education based extended parallel process model (EPPM) on self-medication among elderly in Zarandieh. Methods: In quasi-experimental study, 110 men were selected randomly divided into two equal groups experimental control (45 each). Data collected through questionnaire consisting questions performance checklist which used order evaluate effectiveness educational program. participants filled out questionnaire, then intervention done during month 5 sessions, 45 minutes, finally data analyzed using SPSS18. Results: Before program, there no statistically significant difference between regarding constructs. However after intervention, independent sample t-test showed statistical (P<0.05) knowledge, perceived susceptibility severity, response efficacy, self-efficacy practice. addition, rate decreased significantly group compared controls (p<0.01) (33% V.S 13%). Conclusion: Results confirmed efficiency prevention behaviour individuals.
