摘要: Neutron activation analysis has been used to analyze sediment cores from the Rock River and two branches of Kent Creek, one its tributaries, determine concentrations thirteen heavy metals (Ti, Cu, V, Mn, As, Sb, Se, Cr, Ni, Sc, Fe, Zn, Co) rare earths (Sm La). The downstream sites both Creek have elevated several including arsenic, antimony, zinc. In addition, hundreds parts per million copper found in samples site North Fork Creek. Toxicity tests also indicate that are detrimental lifeforms. Analysis data clearly metal increase as distance center industrial activity (Rockford) decreases.
