Knowledge, assessment and management of pain related to nursing procedures used with premature babies: questionnaire study for caregivers.

摘要: The aim of the study was to discover how much Finnish nursing staff know about pain experienced by premature babies and assessment. types helping methods used caregivers in were also studied. A semistructured questionnaire sent autumn 1995 all registered nurses, practical children's nurses medical laboratory technologists who take heel blood samples (n = 280) working paediatric intensive care units university hospitals. response rate 70.4%. structured questions processed quantitatively at Kuopio University with SPSS/PC+ data processing program (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA), open using quantitative content analysis. results indicate that respondents have rather extensive knowledge babies, assessment, management methods. Pain assessed mostly on basis behaviour physiological changes, only infrequently biochemical changes. described they use considerable detail. most common increase baby's feeling security. answers revealed actions assessment not completely consistent their knowledge. demonstrate do adequately practices. Future studies should observe three groups order treat babies' pain.
