摘要: Abstract The origin of the combustible gases in groundwater from glacial-outwash and fractured-bedrock aquifers was investigated northern Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Thermogenic methane (CH4) ethane (C2H6) microbial CH4 were found. Microbial is natural situ processes shale bedrock occurs chiefly aquifer. δ13C values C2H6 for majority thermogenic water wells either matched or between samples non-native storage-field gas injection observation wells. Traces with a range C H isotopic compositions indicate different origins are mixing sub-surface pathways; mixtures present groundwater. Pathways migration specific source not identified. Processes responsible presence could be elucidated further geochemical study.
