Prevalence and associated risk factors of intestinal helminthic infections in children from Lorestan province, Western Iran

摘要: Abstract Background Intestinal helminthic infections are among the most important global socioeconomic and health problems. This study aimed to estimate frequency of intestinal parasites in 366 children aged 2 15 years referred main pediatric center Lorestan Province, Iran. Methods Microscopic analysis was performed on stool samples. We applied direct smear, scotch tape, formol-ether methods. Moreover, a questionnaire filled by parents or guardians children. Results The results showed that 36 (9.8%) were infected with at least one more parasites. prevalent Enterobius vermicularis (6.8%), Hymenolepis nana (1.9%), Ascaris lumbricoides (0.55%), order their appearance. Statistical several risk factors significantly associated prevalence parasites, including male sex (OR = 2.9; 95% CI: 1.2–6.2; p  Conclusion present high overall province, factor suggest improving environmental hygiene education would be for effective control parasitic infections.
