摘要: The combining of messages within a multistage switching network has been proposed to reduce memory contention in highly parallel shared-memory multiprocessors, especially for shared lock and synchronization data. A quantitative investigation the performance impact such effectiveness reducing this is reported. effect nonuniform traffic pattern consisting single hot spot higher access rate superimposed on background uniform was investigated. potential degradation due even moderate found be very significant, severely degrading all access, not just locations, an authors call tree saturation. technique message effective means eliminating problem if it arises or contention.
