摘要: Abstract A high granularity preshower detector has been fabricated and installed in the WA98 Experiment at CERN SPS for measuring spatial distribution of photons produced forward region lead-ion-induced interactions. Photons are counted by detecting signal plastic scintillator pads placed behind a 3 radiation length thick lead converter applying threshold on to reject minimum ionizing particles. Techniques improve imaging fibre performance multiplicity environment lead–lead collisions described. Using Monte-Carlo simulation methods test beam data π− e− various energies photon counting efficiency is estimated be 68% central 73% peripheral Pb+Pb collisions.
