摘要: The High Agri River Valley is a Quaternary Basin located along the hinge of Southern Apennines fold-andthrust belt. inner margin orogen has been affected by intense transtensional and normal faulting, which accompanied vigorous volcanism during Quaternary. Marker tephra layers are distributed across whole of Southern Italy provide powerful tool to constrain both size eruptions regional activity extensional faults controlling basin evolution. Paleoseismological trenching within Monti della Maddalena range, that borders south-west, exposed faulted stratigraphic sequence recovered a 10 cm thick layer involved in deformation. This first horizon recognized high Agri Valley, which, based on study trench, lies primary position. 40Ar/39Ar dating constrain its age 266 ka an important marker for Middle Pleistocene tephrochronology the region. Together with dating, geochemical analysis suggests possible volcanic source Campanian region.
