Plaques, tangles and dementia. A quantitative study.

摘要: We have made a histological study of the cerebral cortex and hippocampus from 59 consecutively autopsied subjects, aged 51-102 years, prospectively assessed for presence extent (or absence) dementia. Counts were obtained numbers argyrophilic plaques neurofibrillary tangles in each area examined. In demented patients without evidence cerebrovascular disease, highly significant correlation was found between severity dementia number cortex. A but much weaker inconstant present The temporal lobe areas most severely affected by increased tangle formation senile due to Alzheimer's disease.
