摘要: Adequacy of the ANSI standard for calculating articulation index (AI) [ANSI S3.5‐1969 (R1986)] was evaluated by measuring auditory (A), visual (V), and auditory–visual (AV) consonant recognition under a variety bandpass‐filtered speech conditions. Contrary to predictions, filter conditions having same AI did not necessarily result in AI. Low‐frequency bands tended provide more benefit AV than high‐frequency bands. Analyses error patterns produced different showed strong negative correlation between degree A V redundancy amount obtained when cues were combined. These data indicate that procedure is inadequate predicting performance severe spectral shaping.
