摘要: The efficacy of invasive species management is dependent on a thorough understanding the size, origin, and genetic structure populations. We evaluated diversity western mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis, across North Island New Zealand in an effort to better understand post-introduction dispersal mechanisms this highly estuarine species. found clear evidence founder effects significant for populations derived from initially established 1930s. Our findings indicate that G. affinis have succeeded through combination localized human-assisted colonization. Additionally, we identify series one region are apparently genetically isolated other regions. This area could thus represent “significant eradication unit” where re-colonization unlikely. results highlight utility value molecular tools as efficient method facilitate richer nature condition while identifying definitive objectives.
