摘要: Summary In recent years the practice of dowry has witnessed sharp changes in south India. Dowry become an all caste/class phenomenon and average payments have risen. These been associated with several negative consequences for women, including their survival. Despite these continues unabated. Based on data from a Indian village, this paper examines link between domestic violence. We argue that larger dowries reduce marital violence by increasing economic resources household, enhancing social status groom his family, serving as asset over which woman enjoys relatively more control. While women generous may benefit, continued upward spiral expectations will exacerbate daughter aversion fuel sex selective abortion female infanticide.
