摘要: There is widespread agreement that our ability to deliver sustainable food security for all will be challenged in three dimensions — population growth, constrained natural resources, and climate change. The latest Food Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) report, State Insecurity World (FAO 2012), estimates number undernourished world at around 850 million persons (averaged 2010-2012). period relatively steady decline since 1990 was interrupted after 2007 when prices spiked, numbers have remained substantially unchanged then. It clear substantial resources are needed sustain detail modeling model improvements meet needs identified above others. This suggests cooperation across these two sets institutions CGIAR) take advantage their expertise could result better understanding all. At same time, neither has some badly assess coming challenges, so should extend a range research organizations. paper highlights types joint activities cooperative quantitative modeling, use institutional outside substantive expertise, sustained with intercomparison efforts.
