Results of whole brain radiation therapy in patients with brain metastases from colorectal carcinoma.

摘要: Aims and background Carcinoma of the colon-rectum is an infrequent cause brain metastases, constituting 1.5% all metastatic lesions to brain. We reviewed our experience in treatment metastases from colorectal cancer define efficacy whole radiation therapy as a palliative measure this setting patients. Methods Twenty-three consecutive cases metastasis treated between 1999 2004 were identified files Division Radiotherapy A Businco Regional Oncological Hospital, Cagliari. Their records for patient tumor characteristics categorized according RTOG RPA classes. Results Fifteen patients (65%) had multiple metastases. Twenty-one (91%) showed extracranial Fourteen classified class II 9 III. The median dose delivered was 2000 cGy 5 fractions one week (range, 20-36 Gy). In 14 20 assessable (70%), symptomatic improvement observed. follow-up survival time patients, 12 females 11 males, 3 months. only death metastasis. Conclusions Despite disappointing time, external proved be efficacious with or inoperable cancer.
