Do Clinicians Screen Medicaid Patients for Syphilis or HIV When They Diagnose Other Sexually Transmitted Diseases

摘要: Background: Patients diagnosed with gonorrhea or chlamydia are at high risk for HIV and syphilis, should be offered screening both. Goal: This study measures syphilis rates among Medicaid patients another sexually transmitted disease (STD). Study Design: Using 1998 claims data from 4 states, we identified individuals gonorrhea, urogenital chlamydia, pelvic inflammatory disease, then measured the proportion receiving tests syphilis. Results: Only 25% of STD-diagnosed received only 15% HIV. We found significant state-to-state variability in rates. Conclusion: a nonbloodborne STD represent high-risk group that is not adequately screened despite repeated contact medical professionals. Interventions focus on eliminating missed opportunities these individuals.
