摘要: The impact of industrial effluents on the Tamiraparani estuary was investigated by determining degree trace element contamination in estuarine sediments. Surface samples were taken from 30 locations covering entire estuary. Grain size and (Ni, Pb, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd, Mn, Fe, Al) variations analysed, enrichment factors (EF) as well geo-accumulation indices (Igeo) calculated to understand level study area. A geographical information system (GIS) mapping technique employed highlight spatial distribution patterns elements Vulnerability maps prepared Igeo values revealed that is extremely contaminated with Cd moderately Zn Pb. sources these metals are associated nearby chemical plants harbour activities. cumulative effect anthropogenic activities has led a serious threat whole environment.
