摘要: The human body has long provided pharmaceutical science with biomaterials of interesting applications. Bile salts (BSs) are reminiscent traditional surfactants peculiar structure and self-assembled topologies. In the field, BSs were employed on basis two different concepts. first concept exploited BSs’ metabolic homeostatic functions in disease modulation, whereas second one utilized potential to modify drug-delivery characteristics, which recently involved nanotechnology. This review is gather major applications from endogenous organotropism up integration into nanomedicine, a greater focus latter domain. Endogenous highlighted role BS modulating hypercholesterolemia cancer therapy view enterohepatic circulation. addition, recent BS-integrated nanomedicines have been surveyed, chiefly size-tunable cholate nanoparticles, BS-lecithin mixed micelles, bilosomes, probilosomes, surface-engineered bilosomes. A emphasis laid nanosystems for vaccine therapy. comparative advantages over conventional nanocarriers noted. Paradoxical effects, current pitfalls, future perspectives, opinions also outlined.
