摘要: Abstract Background This study was designed to find out the effective antiemetic drug for prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in high risk emetogenic patients undergoing thyroid surgery. Patients methods One hundred twenty patients, ASA I, II, subjected elective surgery were enrolled this study. randomly assigned, according prophylaxis, into three groups, each consisted 40 patients. received 4 mg ondansetron plus 8 mg dexamethasone (Group II) i.v. or 2 mg midazolam III) saline I) just after induction anesthesia. Frequency nausea, vomiting, use antiemetics, complete response (defined as no PONV administration rescue drug) recorded at time points (6 h, 12 h, 24 h) postoperatively. Results We found that ondansetron/dexamethasone midazolam/dexamethasone significantly increased response, compared with placebo, an incidence 90%, 85%, 22.5%, respectively 6 h, 87.5%, 25%, respectively, 12 h 95%, 92.5%, 47.5%, 24 h Conclusion conclude prophylactic midazolam/dexamethasone, reducing Midazolam/dexamethasone is preferred due its cost relative ondansetron/dexamethasone.
