Internalized HIV and Drug Stigmas: Interacting Forces Threatening Health Status and Health Service Utilization Among People with HIV Who Inject Drugs in St. Petersburg, Russia

摘要: Marked overlap between the HIV and injection drug use epidemics in St. Petersburg, Russia, puts many people need of health services at risk for stigmatization based on both characteristics simultaneously. The current study examined independent interactive effects internalized stigmas status service utilization among 383 with who inject drugs Petersburg. Participants self-reported stigma, (subjective rating symptom count), (HIV care treatment), sociodemographic characteristics, health/behavioral history. For forms greater stigma was correlated poorer lower likelihood utilization. interacted to predict count, care, treatment such that individuals internalizing high levels were elevated experiencing poor less likely access services.
