摘要: For the pulp and paper industry (PPI), earlier research has shown that there are many technology pathways, proven new, available for improvement of energy efficiency additional sales (new) products. Some pathways can only be implemented in kraft mills, e.g. black liquor gasification (BLG), but some industry-wide, carbon capture storage (CCS). From a future perspective it is not clear which pathway most profitable one or gives lowest emissions CO2 due to uncertainties both value different products development infrastructure. This lead decision anxiety, PPI regarding choice decision-makers creating new policy schemes. The overall aim this thesis analyse six European PPI: increased electricity production, export bark, extraction lignin, CCS, BLG heat district heating purposes. To elucidate potential for, effects of, implementation these three themes questions addressed: 1. General integration opportunities types existing mills. 2. Economic performance global assuming developments market. 3. Factors influencing industry-wide implementation. The results show such as production economically robust, i.e. they varying market conditions. The emerging studied, lignin extraction, hold larger reduction emissions, their economic more dependent on Further, shows how earlier, detailed lifted higher system level order put context answer aggregated level. also improving availability (and accuracy) public data statistics key factor if good analyses performed.
