摘要: We outline the aims of palaeolimnology and describe major types palaeolimnological data. The distinction between biological data derived from stratigraphical studies cores modern surface-sediment samples with environmental is discussed. A brief history development quantitative presented, starting early applications principal component analysis in 1975. Major developments occurred late 1980s, thanks to work Cajo ter Braak others. structure book terms four parts explained. Part I introductory presents an overview numerical methods data-sets used. II approaches appropriate III considers techniques that are only applicable data, IV three case-studies concludes a discussion future challenges.
