摘要: Justification for preoperative irradiation of locally advanced breast cancer is based on the theory that this adjunct will eradicate peripheral tumor cells making complete resection more likely and cell dissemination due to surgical manipulation less likely. Balanced against increased risk postoperative complications including upper extremity lymphedema delay surgery. The literature indicates does reduce local recurrence may improve survival. For a conclusive evaluation however prospective clinical trials are needed which require honest cooperation between radiotherapists surgeons.
