摘要: Enterocytozoon bieneusi is one of the commonest microsporidians contributing to human microsporidiosis, and frequently found in animals various countries. However, there limited epidemiological information on this microorganism Australia. Here, we undertook first molecular study E. cats dogs Victoria. Genomic DNAs were extracted from 514 individual faecal deposits (n = 172) (n = 342) then tested using PCR-based sequencing internal transcribed spacer (ITS) nuclear ribosomal DNA. Four distinct genotypes (designated D, PtEb IX, VIC_cat1 VIC_dog1) identified 20 samples (3.9%). Genotype D known have a broad host range (humans other animals) has wide geographical distribution around world. The identification genotype here suggests that companion might represent reservoir hosts are able transmit infection humans A phylogenetic analysis ITS sequence data revealed novel related type IV within Group 1, new VIC_dog1 linked contentious “Group 3”, which includes reported previously published literature 2 or 3. future, large-scale all genotypes, including VIC_dog1, should aid clarifying their relationships assignment Groups, thus assisting investigations.
