摘要: Cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) include those oral cavity, pharynx (other than nasopharynx), larynx, and esophagus. Tobacco smoking consumption alcoholic beverages are established causes UADT cancers, whereas reduced intake vegetables fruits likely causes. The role genetic predisposition possible interactions with exogenous factors, however, have not been adequately studied. Moreover, pattern drinking, as well exact nature implicated dietary variables, has clarified. To address these issues, International Agency for Research on Cancer initiated in 2002 alcohol-related cancers susceptibility (ARCAGE) Europe project, participation 15 centers 11 European countries. Information biological data from a total 2304 cases 2227 controls collected will be used series analyses. A 166 single nucleotide polymorphisms 76 genes being studied associations cancers. We report here methodology ARCAGE main demographic lifestyle characteristics controls, distribution by histology subsite. About 80% were males fewer 20% all occurred before age 50 years. Overall, most common subsite was followed oropharynx, esophagus hypopharynx. Close to 90% squamous cell carcinomas. clear preponderance smokers alcohol drinkers among compared observed.
