摘要: Livestock predation is an important cause of endangerment the snow leopard (Panthera uncia) across its range. Yet, detailed information on individual and spatio-temporal variation in patterns leopards their kill rates livestock wild ungulates are lacking. We collared 19 Tost Mountains, Mongolia, searched clusters GPS positions to identify prey remains estimate rate choice. Snow killed, average, one ungulate every 8 days, which included more (73%) than (27%), despite abundance being at least order magnitude higher. Predation herded occurred mainly stragglers rugged areas where animals out sight herders. The two ungulates, ibex (Capra ibex) argali (Ovis ammon), were killed proportion relative abundance. changed with spatial (wild ungulates) seasonal (livestock) changes Adult male larger 2–6 times compared females young males. Kill considerably higher previous scat-based estimates, suggest that (i) largely opportunistically, (ii) retaliatory killing by herders likely greater mortality adult males, (iii) total off-take a population be much estimates suggest.
