HIV-related Risk Behaviors among a Sample of Men who have Sex with Men in Puerto Rico: An Overview of Substance Use and Sexual Practices

摘要: Few studies in the Caribbean have emphasized importance of understanding human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related risk behaviors among men who sex with (MSM) (1). In 2006, surveillance data indicated that overall HIV incidence rate Puerto Rico (PR) was twice estimated US and 1.5 times higher than for Hispanics (2). Contrary to what has been case regard primary method transmission US, resulting from injection drug use (IDU) practices accounts more half (53%) cases Rican men, whereas 22% these (3, 4). According PR Surveillance System, there a decrease 3.4% number IDU between 2005 2007. During same period, 9.1% increase prevalence MSM observed, suggesting risks this group might be contributing epidemic (5). Despite epidemiological PR, current on behavioral are scarce. Therefore, present study described HIV-related sample PR.
