摘要: A novel intumescent flame retardant treatment, consisting of vinylphosphonic acid (VPA) as the source and methacrylamide (MAA) blowing agent, was designed applied onto cotton fabrics. The grafting reactive monomers cellulose chains carried out using potassium persulfate initiator a radical polymerization technique. thermal fire behaviour treated fabrics thoroughly investigated: in particular, VPA/MAA coating able to exert protective action, giving rise formation stable swollen char on surface textile fibers upon heating, hence improving retardancy cotton. In addition, fabric achieved self-extinction assessed by horizontal spread tests. Finally, remarkable weight loss observed only after first washing cycle, then samples did not show any significant loss, confirming durability self-extinguishing even five laundering cycles.
