Health impact assessment of an urban regeneration project: opportunities and challenges in the context of a southern European city

摘要: Background Social values and the political context have an influence on use spread of health impact assessment (HIA). In Spain, there is little experience in HIA but some regional governments are already introducing it. The aim this article to describe impacts a local regeneration project improve accessibility neighbourhood Bilbao (Spain), discuss main difficulties, opportunities challenges process, considering specificities social context. Methods A concurrent prospective assessment, based broad model health, was carried out following Merseyside guidelines. literature review, community profiling qualitative data collection were undertaken. Profound involvement members key informants judged as essential process. Results overall expected effect new lifts, roads, park rainwater system positive. Uncertain or negative identified those areas, also concerning burying four high-voltage power lines. Historical current characteristics highly influential way people perceived its impacts. Likewise, which processes planning implementation developing played important role. Conclusion southern European countries will depend progressive introduction underlying HIA, well promotion intersectoral work, better knowledge community9s participation policy making.
