摘要: Aim An integrative review of empirical studies on factors promoting trust in the patient–primary care provider relationship. Background Trust is essential to patient–provider relationship. Patients with high their healthcare providers have been found improved outcomes, including chronic disease management, increased use preventative services and satisfaction care. Breaches system threaten trust. Exploring that promote relationship warranted. Design Integrative literature review. Data sources Electronic databases searched included CINAHL, MEDLINE PsycARTICLES, using combinations key term ‘trust’ with: concept, practitioner, provider, physician, developing, creating, engendering, establishing. The results were limited original publications English, published between 1998–2013. Review methods A was conducted by two independent reviewers based criteria established Cooper; Whittemore Knafl; Polit Beck. Methodological assessment tools used organize, evaluate quality synthesize data. Results A new conceptual definition proposed includes three core qualities: interpersonal technical competence, moral comportment vigilance. Gaps still exist related rural, young adult, older adult well patient populations. Conclusion The qualities could serve as target areas for development interventions aimed at modifying behaviours so can be established, maintained or improved. Future prospective longitudinal research are needed enhance understanding multiple primary types.
