摘要: Abstract We describe megaspore apparatuses and microspore massulae of Azolla coloniensis sp. nov., a heterosporous water fern the family Salviniaceae. The apparatus is composed body three tiers floats covered by dense filosum, while its wall consists an exine two-layered perine, with spongy endoperine large, clavate exoperine. Microspore are variable in size shape bear aseptate glochidia anchor-shaped tips. new species increases scarce record Salviniaceae megaspores Southern Hemisphere significantly extends our knowledge variability morphological characters genus. Fossils indicate freshwater depositional environment interpreted as being preserved in situ due to their excellent preservation frequent attachment megaspores. This contribution supports hypotheses rapid geographic dispersal diversification genus, both hemispheres, during Late Cretaceous.
