摘要: Organic anion transporting polypeptides (Oatps/OATPs) form a growing gene superfamily and mediate transport of wide spectrum amphipathic organic solutes. Different Oatps/OATPs have partially overlapping distinct substrate preferences for solutes such as bile salts, steroid conjugates, thyroid hormones, anionic oligopeptides, drugs, toxins other xenobiotics. While some are preferentially or even selectively expressed in one tissue the liver, others multiple organs including blood-brain barrier (BBB), choroid plexus, lung, heart, intestine, kidney, placenta testis. This review summarizes actual state rapidly expanding OATP covers structural properties, genomic classification, phylogenetic relationships functional characteristics. In addition, we propose new species independent open ended nomenclature classification system, which is based on divergent evolution agrees with guidelines Human Genome Nomenclature Committee.
