First Cerenkov charge-induction (CCI) TlBr detector for TOF-PET and proton range verification

摘要: Thallium bromide (TlBr) is a semiconductor material and, simultaneously, good Cerenkov radiator. The performance of TlBr detector that integrates two different readouts, the charge induction readout and detection light, was evaluated. A with dimensions 4  ×  4  ×  5 mm3, monolithic cathode an anode segmented into strips, manufactured. One bare polished 4  ×  4 mm2 faces coupled to silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) read out light. Simultaneous timing energy resolutions of  <400 ps full width at half maximum (FWHM) ~8.5% 511 keV were measured using respectively. coincidence time resolution 330 ps obtained when selecting events amplitudes above 70 mV. combination both readouts showed potential resolve depth-of-interaction (DOI) positioning, based on improvement similar electron drift times. This manuscript sets stage for new family detectors combine light detection. Such can provide, outstanding timing, energy, spatial resolution, will be excellent fit applications require high-energy gamma photons high accuracy, such as time-of-flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET) prompt imaging (PGI) assess particle range in hadron therapy.
