摘要: This paper comments on Davison’s (2013) analysis of the Hindi/Urdu permissive as: (1) a control construction with an ‘allow to do’ reading; (2) an ecm happen’ reading. The reiterates Butt’s (1995) original reasons for positing a complex predicate and extends reading permissive. argumentation covers different theoretical perspectives brings out issues respect finiteness degrees embedding that pertain how “tight” given predication ranging over subevents is. argues events embedded under or raising are less tightly connected matrix verb/event than is case in cohesion between must be understood as reflecting within modules grammar.
