The effects of winning and losing on perceived group variability

摘要: article i nfo Article history: Previous research has shown that the people in low status, negatively-valued groups are perceived to be more homogeneous than high positively-valued groups. The present investigated possibility of an opposite effect which perceive positive negative researchers hypothesized winning would homoge- nous losing becausegroup homogeneity isassociated with group cohesiveness,and cohesive- ness a value context intergroup competition. In a!rst experiment (N=175), target varied according their objective variability and whether they won or lost As pre- dicted, were signi!cantly homogenous regardless variability. second (N=186), these effects replicated using different social groups, performance on judgments was mediated by perceptions cohesiveness.
