Replication and host modification of DNA transferred during bacterial mating

摘要: An experiment is presented which shows that during the course of bacterial mating between an Escherichia coli F-prime (λ) male and E. female, transferred λ prophages all replicate. This strongly suggests factors carrying prophage replicate mating. A separate experiment, employing host-induced modification, at least 20% strands injected into female are synthesized in just prior to injection. It argued DNA replicates injection, most newly made not endowed with modification properties normally associated male.
