摘要: Background To evaluate whether medical students who have expressed a strong desire to pursue ophthalmology as career perform simulated ophthalmic surgical tasks higher level than whose interests lie elsewhere. Methods All participants were fourth or fifth year at University College London (UCL) Medical School, London, UK. One cohort was recruited from the Moorfields Academy, an forum designed enhance collaboration and innovation within specialty. These therefore seen highly motivated, expressing in ophthalmology. The other of invited participate during their UCL Ophthalmology attachment, but interest non-ophthalmic disciplines. Participants carried out single attempt three modules on Eyesi Surgical Simulator, total mean scores calculated 100. Results 13 academy 15 non-academy enrolled. overall 51/100 for group, range 0–97, 45.5/100 0–90 (p=0.49). Scores precision testing, forceps training capsulorrhexis versus 45.8 37.8 (p=0.61), 57.1 52.3 (p=0.8) 50.2 46.4 (p=0.55), respectively. Conclusions This study is first suggest that with do not microsurgical no goal this area. also indicates variation between novices, which may serve pitfall use simulators tool entry into training.
