摘要: ABSTRACT A review is given of current research on the nature microscopic mechanisms metal fatigue. The topics include cyclic hardening and saturation, persistent slip bands in single- multiphase materials, trans- intercrystalline fatigue crack initiation propagation related threshold phenomena. Experimental observations demonstrating important effects microstructure behaviour are surveyed discussed. need for fundamental studies under (simple) well-characterized conditions emphasized.
