Major depressive disorder: a qualitative study on the experiences of Iranian patients.

摘要: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is one the most common mental disorders; it affects about 5-10% of world population. This study explores experiences people with major in Zanjan, Iran. In order to identify recurring themes and patterns individuals' disorder, semi-structured interviews 18 patients were recorded transcribed verbatim. The transcripts then analyzed based on conventional qualitative content analysis. Five main categories emerged. first category was called emotional paralysis included subcategories feeling severely depressed; anxious; impatient irritable; having dyshedonia. second disturbance thinking comprised preoccupation, instable spiritual beliefs, guilt. Cognitive decline third identified further divided into frustration, unawareness negative evaluation, indecisiveness, loss focus memory. Another physical illnesses discomfort, sleep problems, appetite disturbance, facial changes, sexual dysfunction, medical conditions. final failure life, which had personal affairs, jeopardized interpersonal relations, unstable work life as subcategories. These findings provide a base for research this area. They also have clinical relevance health care providers working MDD. Related cultural issues are discussed.
