摘要: The large-scale spatial dynamics and population structure of marine top predators are poorly known. We present electronic tag photographic identification data showing a complex suite behavioral patterns in white sharks. These include coastal return migrations the fastest known transoceanic migration among swimming fauna, which provide direct evidence link between widely separated populations South Africa Australia. Transoceanic involved to original capture location, dives depths 980 meters, tolerance water temperatures as low 3.4°C. findings contradict previous ideas that female sharks do not make migrations, they suggest natal homing behavior.
