摘要: The definition of quality in the field resonance wood for musical instrument making has attracted considerable interest over decades but remained incomplete. current work compares traditional knowledge and practical experience violin makers with a material-science approach to objectively characterize properties wood. Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] earned very high reputation construction tops stringed instruments boards keyboard instruments, was therefore chosen as focus investigation. samples were obtained from numerous renowned regions European Alps cover whole range available qualities. A set acoustical, anatomical, mechanical optical material measured on each sample. These measurements compared subjective grading by makers, who estimated overall suitability making. Multiple linear regression models applied evaluate predictability using characteristics predictors. results show that luthiers are able estimate related visible features, predictions acoustical proved be poor.
