摘要: Abstract Background People with mental health conditions have been identified as particularly vulnerable to poor and wellbeing during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, why this population faced these adverse effects, how they experienced them coped pandemic remains under-explored. Aims To explore COVID-19 affected of people existing conditions, identify protective factors coping strategies applied support positive health. Method Semi-structured qualitative interviews thematic analysis 22 pre-existing conditions. Results Five related contributed a deterioration in health: i) feeling safe but isolated at home ii) disruption services, iii) cancelled plans changed routines iv) uncertainty lack control, v) rolling media coverage. were for maintaining previous experience adversity less accountable others engaging hobbies activities, staying connected others, perceived social support. Conclusions Particular challenges that direct result severe illnesses negatively affected. some participants found period time respite, able draw upon reserves resilience adapt their maintain wellbeing.
