Sodium Levels in Packaged Foods Sold in 14 Latin American and Caribbean Countries: A Food Label Analysis.

摘要: Population-wide sodium reduction is a cost-effective approach to address the adverse health effects associated with excess consumption. Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries consume dietary sodium. Packaged foods are major contributor intake target for interventions. This study examined levels in 12 categories of packaged sold 14 LAC (n = 16,357). Mean percentiles were examined. Sodium compared regional targets. In this baseline analysis, 82% met 47% lower target. The greatest proportion products meeting uncooked pasta noodles (98%), flavored cookies/crackers (97%), seasonings sides/main dishes (96%), mayonnaise (94%), cured/preserved meats (91%). A large among (88%), cooked meat/fish (88%). highest median condiments (7778 mg/100 g), processed (870 (755 bread (458 cheese (643 snack (625 g). These data suggest that targets may need be more stringent enable effective lowering intake.
