摘要: Studies of zoochorous seed dispersal systems often consider crop size, yet seldom the kinds and amounts fruits surrounding parent plants (the fruit neighborhood) when attempting to explain among-plant variation in removal. We studied avian frugivory at 24 Schefflera morototoni trees from February May 1998 central Puerto Rico. The number removed by dispersers per visit was similar among focal (typically 2–4). In contrast, visitation rate highly variable (range: 0–71 visits 4 h). used multiple regression analyses evaluate relative roles size (focal tree ripe abundance) neighborhood variables (measured within 30 m trees) affecting frugivores. Visitation positively related (although this only significant one four models considered) negatively presence or abundance conspecific fruits, suggesting that competed intraspecifically for dispersers. Relationships between heterospecific were mixed—some appeared enhance trees, while others seemed reduce visitation. most models, had larger effects on than size. Our results highlight important local fruiting environments ability individual attract
