摘要: BACKGROUND Trypanosoma cruzi is endemic to the Americas where it demonstrates multiple lineages over a vast geographic range (i.e., United States Argentina). These possess divergent and biologic characteristics, including variations in disease manifestations. Herein, we report frequency of parasitemia among seropositive US blood donors potential association between parasite lineage transfusion transmission. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS Blood identified as T. cruzi during screening were enrolled follow-up studies, hemoculture testing risk factor questionnaire. Positive hemocultures expanded obtain sufficient parasites for molecular determination analysis. Country birth, obtained from questionnaire, was used predict absence demonstrable infected donors. RESULTS Eighteen (6.8%) 263 positive. Among 17 determination, TcV more frequently (n = 12), compared TcI (n = 2), TcII (n = 1), TcVI (n = 2). When presumptive results, only two 157 (1.3%) versus 13 38 (34.2%) TcII/TcV/TcVI non-US parasitemic; three 44 or TcVI. CONCLUSIONS Based on with parasitemia; positivity associated lineage; implicated US, Canadian, Spanish cases, Southern South America are significantly likely have transmit infection recipients (TcII, TcV, vs. TcI). Thus, may be transfusion-transmitted T. cruzi.
