摘要: OBJECTIVES : The abdominal visceral fat depot is considered to be the most atherogenic, diabetogenic and hypertensiogenic of human body. Although amount correlated with total body fat, there remain considerable inter-individual differences in at any level content. No study has been reported date on contribution genetic factors variability level. DESIGN Abdominal area was assessed by computerized tomography 382 adult men women from 100 families Quebec Family Study. After adjustment for effects age plus mass (assessed underwater weighing), a major gene hypothesis investigated using segregation (POINTER) analyses. RESULTS Segregation analysis age-adjusted variable indicated that accounted transmitted according Mendelian expectations. Data support an autosomal recessive locus, associated high levels accounting 51% phenotypic variance affecting 10% sample. An additional 21% due multifactorial (polygenic and/or familial environment) sources. However, after adjusting mass, less strong. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest etiology involves locus. Given critical role metabolic complications obesity, it will now important identify responsible observed some adults investigate whether this same as which influences
