摘要: In marine sediments gas hydrate growth removes water and molecules from the pore while dissolved ions are excluded clathrate cage. As a consequence, surrounding waters become more saline. Conversely, when hydrates decompose, is released, causing to fresher. Ion exclusion produces distinctive geochemical signatures that used identify presence of calculate amount in sediment samples. These calculations, however, require knowledge ion concentration situ prior decomposition. Because arguably no useable samples have been collected gas-hydrate-bearing sediments, calculated amounts very dependent on assumed concentrations. this paper, principles behind using measured chloride concentrations estimate reviewed, along with data selected sites around world. clearly define local anomalies zones believed currently contain hydrate, but also document occurrence thick low immediately below base stability. The potential causes for these stability discussed.
