These pose less risk patients but greater challenges for pathologists and clinicians alike. Specimens derived from small comprised fine-needle aspirates core biopsies. Standardized criteria have been developed classifying biopsies cytology specimens performing molecular testing. However, similar protocols adequacy tissue preservation these samples lacking yet crucial as frequently represent the only sample in a vast majority cases upon which diagnoses rendered. This chapter discusses methods, including rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE), telecytology, various fixatives/media, cell block techniques, available optimize biopsy acquisition preservation.
