Comparative fatty acid content of seeds of four Cucurbita species grown in a common (shared) garden

摘要: Abstract Great variation has been observed in fatty acid content of pumpkin seeds from Cucurbita pepo, while other or winter squash species, including C. moschata, maxima, and argyrosperma (aka mixta), have inadequately studied. Varieties these four species were grown a common (shared) garden. Total extractable lipids measured; quantity acids lipophilic extract palmitic, stearic, oleic linoleic determined by GC-FID, as was the free acids. Considerable total lipid composition, within well among observed; on average, pepo had lowest proportion saturated acids, whereas maxima highest. Hybridization open-pollinated fruits affected seed phenotype, higher content.
