摘要: Using field observations, interview narratives, and lyrical analysis, this thesis argues that the increasing presence of hip hop arts in social spheres not popularly associated with such as community activism, school-based education theatre is traceable to an intra cultural political struggle I term ‘hip versus rap’. Hip rap opposes notion a temporally prior, authentic culture its degeneration into commercial ‘anti-social’ music. As redemptive discourse seeks annex socially responsible from popular caricature by culturally exogenous interests. part progressive grassroots, hop’s extension new educational artistic domains thus marks, at one level, continuation longstanding black diaspora struggles around race cooptation.
