摘要: In this study we estimate boundary-layer growth and entrainment bycombining radiosonde micrometeorological observations with asimple coupled land surface model. A variational(smoothing) approach is used to find the optimal ofentrainment over daytime window. This method appealingbecause it accounts for uncertainty in various data streams, while enforcing dynamics of model (i.e., water energybudgets boundary layer, mixed-layer growth, etc.). Thetraditional variational framework was modified toinclude an ensemble approach, which not only yields a (mean) estimateof entrainment, but measure its as well. Themethodology applied field experiment site Kansas. Resultsfrom indicate much larger ratio surfacefluxes compared early literature values from other sites. However, our results are consistent recent estimates at usingindependent estimation methods. tests where werewithheld, reasonable skill still shown, suggesting potential more widespread applications onlymicrometeorological available. Finally, assimilationframework presented here has traditionally been inatmospheric studies, may provide useful approachfor studying aspects layer future.
